Description

The May 2001 issue previews the Mallory Park mile oval meeting, with national Hot Rods, 2.0 litre Hot rods, Superstox, Stock Rods, Lightning Rods, Group ‘A’s, Spedeworth F1V8 Hot Rods and new this season the oval Legends.

A feature held over from last month is the Short Circuit Festival held at Silverstone, with lots of pictures.

The diary of a self-built Grand Prix Midget by Evan Stone. Four years into the build, and the car known as the Cheetah Grand Prix Midget is nearly ready to race, or is it? He tells us what its like to build a race car from his own drawings….

With the holiday season approaching we look at oval racing in an unlikely location, on the beaches in the Channel Islands, racing on sand and what appears more to be mud!

Alan Wilkinson, who has starting sending us reports from Alwalton, is probably typical of most trackside officials – started racing many years ago and is still involved with the sport.

Also featured are New Zealand Stock Cars and some of the formulas they run on their mostly dirt tracks – a country where you can often see contact stock car racing, speedway bikes, sprint cars and midgets, often at the same meeting.

Part two of Paul Huggett’s feature when he visited Ohsweken Speedway in Canada, where he was made very welcome but had a race car lent to him in which he actually won the race. The car was a 2.2 litre Dodge, a bit like an Opel Manta Paul said “It was a nice surprise to be shepherded onto the ‘victory lane’ and we got a quick interview, a plug or two for ‘Short Circuit’ and a surprisingly fine, positive, vocal response from the crowd when they were asked by commentator Clint to “really hear it for our visitor all the way from the Yoo Kay”..
