Superb Swaffham
Spedeworth’s weekend thrash that incorporated the 2002 World Superstox race had it all – fine weather, great racing, bags of incident, and top value for the fans. Most of those who had turned up to watch rather than race are likely to be penning the date for next year’s event in the 2003 diary, just as soon as they let us know what it is. Miniman May Returns
It was a gap of around eight years between Steve May’s last appearance on the track at Arena-Essex in Group A Hot Rods, and his 2002 renaissance. Like many a ‘retired’ racer, Steve hadn’t been able to keep himself entirely shut away from the world of competition and liking the look of the track’s home grown division in its current state, the man who was one of the very first recruits over twenty years ago when the old Mini and Anglia Hot Rod divisions that had stood promoters PRI in good stead for the 1970’s were amalgamated and upgraded from what had, essentially, been ‘limited contact’ racing into a pukka Hot Rod class.

John Mickel in the USA
Cambridge’s John Mickel who won the ASCAR championship last season is busy in Mooresville North Carolina building a new NASCAR Busch Series Ford for his debut in the penultimate Busch series race of the year at Phoenix on November 10.

Sparkes the Survivor
Garry Sparkes has now broken the existing record and made it five Superstox World title wins; in addition he is the 2002 Super Rod World champion too, but he won’t rest until he’s given himself a shot at winning another ‘Gold’ – that of the National Hot Rod division.
We spoke to the re-crowned king of the Supers about that, his latest big win, and clashes on the track……… Story Paul Huggett.

F1 World Report
