Re-inventing the Stock Car
With their new 2 litre Saloon Stock Car formula, Spedeworth aims to keep it real, with plenty of cheap cars and lots of spinning. We’ve been here before for sure, but while those old Fords are still around in good numbers, it’s surely the time to do it. Malcolm Foskett returns to SC’s pages with the story and track test…

Five Point Interview:
A series in which we ask people in the sport some hard, but fair, questions: This month Paul Huggett asks: What’s David Haird really up to?
During the winter months, we heard one or two people speculating about the current state of National Hot Rods, where they are headed, and in particular, what was one team owner, and behind-the-scenes mover and shaker, doing with his apparently increasing involvement in the division. Trying to nudge it along a pre-determined path? Trying to take it over altogether? Was David Haird, businessman, race enthusiast and organiser of the National Hot Rod stands at recent NEC shows even attempting to usurp some of the promoters’ power, prod the sport in a new direction, what?

Pickup Truck Racing -A Look Ahead to the 2006 Season
Another superb season is in prospect for the Pickup Trucks – surely the providers of the most consistently entertaining motor racing in Europe. For the last two seasons the championship has gone all the way to the wire with spectators only needing the edge of their seats for most of the year.

Grand Prix Midget 2006 Season Preview
The Grand Prix Midget season gets under way on April 8 with the June Cochrane Trophy at Swaffham Raceway, the first of 19 fixtures taking the formula to 11 circuits in the UK culminating with the Graham Hill Trophy on 1 October at Bovingdon Raceway. 2006 sees a return to Tipperary in June, onto shale at a Sheffield and Belle Vue double header in May and returning to Arena Essex after some time with the European Championship in July. The World Championship goes to Ringwood over the August Bank Holiday. A good mix then and something for everybody.

In George’s Time – (Spedeworth in the early seventies)
This month’s choice selection of black and whites comes from the camera of Norwich based Melvyn Johnson, who started shooting as a young enthusiast at his local stadium The Firs, and went on to work in both stills and movies alongside some of the other regular Spedeworth track photographers in the 1960’s and 70’s
