Davy Does it Again!
Twelve years after coming to Ipswich for the first time, virtually unknown outside of his native Northern Ireland, qualifying twenty seventh on the grid and making an inspired tyre choice and roaring through the entire field in what is still the last wet National Hot Rod World Final, to take a sensational win, Davy McCall came back again this year and proved that he could do it in the dry as well.

2002 Ipswich Spedeweeked
This year’s Ipswich two day extravaganza of Oval Racing was a tremendous success and was widely regarded as being one of the best for years despite the National Hot Rod World Final itself not being a classic, unless you happened to be Irish of course!

Fine Festival
This year’s running of the PRI Festival of Speed reverted to a one-day event format, harking back to the days when it used to run at Brands Hatch circuit rather than Arena-Essex. Also, in a period when every other day had rain, wind and more rain, it was on a fine day, which meant the last day of June and the racing matched perfectly.

Saloon Stock Car World and European Previews
The ‘must see’ meeting of the season takes place at Smeatharpe Stadium, between Honiton and Taunton, over the weekend of 10/11th August 2002, when Autospeed proudly present the Saloon Stock Car World Championship Speedweekend. Then a week later its the European at Kings Lynn

News from South Africa
Here’s a wrap on South African oval news at the end of the 2001/02 season. Russell McCormack is sitting writing this in the middle of the coldest and wettest winter in S.A. for many years. With most tracks hibernating till around late September early October time when the Dirt tracks come alive again!
