Midgets in the 1950’s
To try and run any motor sport in mid-winter on shale tracks is courting disaster, but the threats from the rain did not deter Skirrow midget car owner Dave Hughes and Coventry promoter Charles Ochiltree from trying to establish a speedway-type league for midgets in the winter of 1951-52. By John Hyam.

Kent Intent
By Paul Huggett. Stock Rod racer James Kent has made a lot of progress since he started in the sport, has several track championships behind him, and now his first Spedeworth major title won in bad weather at Wimbledon’s Winternationals event? He’s still only 18. How far will he go? That depends………

Turning it Round
Mark Kelman forgot all about a lousy 2002 season and won the lion’s share of the big races in his best year yet in 2003. By Paul Huggett.

Spedeworth’s Superstox 2003 Review
Good Year – but What Next? by Paul Huggett. The 2003 Superstox season was a good one. OK, after two consecutive years of growth and hard racing that went before, and with over 40 meetings around the Spedeworth tracks, some of which came rather too close together for some racers, it was going to be hard to sustain an upward curve in popularity for the division – which many obsessive BriSCA F2 fans still dismiss as minor league alongside their own nation-wide and well subscribed racing. That said we are talking here about a class that five years ago, was all but dead.

2003 NASCAR Winston Cup Review
It has to be said the final year of the NASCAR Winston Cup had some surprises, the most surprising of all came when in February Winston announced they would like to exit the sport they have supported for 33 years with five years remaining on its contract. NASCAR announced in June they found a replacement for 2004 in Nextel communications.

2004 NASCAR Nextel Cup Preview
Winds of change will be what 2004 is all about in the newly named and sponsored Nextel Cup Series with changes in corporate channels, the points system and to the cars themselves, plus of course there is the usual array of driver changes and a few teams that will not be around in zero four.
