Motorfest
‘Motorfest’ takes place at Rockingham this month, over the weekend of September 14/15th to be exact, and the official launch of the event took place at the impressive Northamptonshire facility recently.
A lap, or two, of Rockingham
It looks easy doesn’t it. OK – they are going quickly admittedly, but from the vast Rockingham stands the SCSA cars look serene as they speed around the track, a gentle turn of the steering wheel here and there, a little bit of braking into turn 4, nothing special. Compared against the frenetic activity of our ¼ mile ovals this is nothing. I bet Colin White does this in his sleep.
Pickups 10th Birthday
Paul Poulter had his own celebrations as well as celebrating the Pickups 10th Birthday at Rockingham on 22nd July at Rockingham. The Surrey based driver extended his record breaking oval race run to eight on the trot.
Blackman’s National at Last
A healthy entry of 45 cars took part in the 44th running of the National Championship at Hednesford Hills Raceway on the 4th/5th August. The big entry came from England, Ireland and Scotland, in fact the Irish (Northern & Republic) outnumbered the English cars with all the top drivers coming over, including Ian Thompson Jnr driving his father’s newly acquired ex McCall/Richardson 206cc.
Jason’s World
This year’s Grand Prix Midget World Championship was an international event with Dutch and German drivers joining the British. Toni Scheepens from Holland was joined by Klaus Kilianski fuelling optimism for the revival of Grand Prix Midget racing in mainland Europe.
