Open Season
Paul Huggett pays a visit to the track he first race at in 1972 – it’s changed a lot (so has he) and he liked it so much it went back again the next weekend. The third weekend in October is generally one on which Jim and Jan Hazelgrove, hosts at the Oval Race Club’s Angmering Raceway, have an open event of some kind, and this year, having moved their popular Short Circuit Open Hot Rod Championship, backed to the tune of a £1000 first place prize this year by racing enthusiast Steve Skelton’s Metcraft Tanks company, back to it’s prime Autumn spot, an excellent show resulted despite weather most foul for about a hundred miles all round the West Sussex track. Many of the cars at the Metcraft Short Circuit Open were back the following week, when the SEGTO / NASA challenge brought a good entry of Autograss racers to sample the concrete strip, the first leg of this annual event having run at the Bredon Hill dirt track the week before.
