Grand Prix Midgets
(A look back at 2007 and forward to 2008)
The Grand Prix Midget Club had a good 2007 with above average grids and some new drivers as well as the return of some ‘old’ drivers. Dave Smith took the main honours winning a heat and the West Country Challenge Final to go points leader after the first round at Grimley. The 18 car field saw the return of Harry Sayell in his new ‘SRV’ and Peter Dorrell back after a five year break in his Westfield. First crash of the year went to Neil Clarke who hit the barrier in his new car early in heat one.
2008 Test Day
Short Circuit reporter Jerry Fisher met a whole bunch of racers at a January Test Day. He also got to try out Joey Collin’s new 1300 Stock Car.
We are pleased to report that long time American race fan Mike Greenwood will be covering the NASCAR racing series in 2008 in association with Martin Clark. Mike’s first report comes from Daytona, Florida following the running of the 50th Daytona 500 – the “Great American Race
Hot Rod History Repeated – African Hot Rod World Cup Final
It was in the seventies that Spedeworth promoted Stock Cars here in Africa. Way back then, were the heydays of the sport in Africa, Mr. Stock Car, Les Eaton brought Spedeworth and UK style Stock Car racing to these shores running at several tracks including Mahem, using local drivers.
In addition, Spedeworth would often bring in UK racing teams to compete here, this is still happens regularly around SA today.
